How it works

How it works: ask, talk, match, fund

Six steps from your first question to funds in the account — with no credit check to ask and no pile of lenders calling you.

  1. 1

    1. Ask Mr (about 60 seconds)

Tell us the amount, what it's for, how long you've been trading, whether there's property and where you are with IRD. No credit check to ask.

  2. 2

    2. A real person reads it

A specialist goes through your answers — not an algorithm, and not a crowd of lenders bidding for you.

  3. 3

    3. We ring you

A conversation to fill in the gaps: the story behind the numbers, your timing, and anything awkward like tax debt or credit marks.

  4. 4

    4. Straight answer, real options

We explain what's realistic — secured or unsecured, roughly how much, what it would involve and what it would cost — and if the honest answer is 'not yet', we say so and tell you what to fix.

  5. 5

    5. You decide; then paperwork

Only if you want to go ahead: documents, any credit check, valuation and legal work for property-secured loans, then approval.

  6. 6

    6. Settlement

Funds are paid to your account or straight to whoever needs paying — IRD, a supplier, a seller or an existing lender.

What makes it different

Most people who need business finance have had at least one bad experience: an online form that led to a week of calls from strangers, a bank that took a month to say no, or a broker who never explained the fees. Mr's way is built to avoid all three.

  • No credit check to ask. Your credit file isn't touched until you decide to proceed.
  • No spray and pray. One specialist, one conversation, one well-matched option — not your details auctioned to whoever bites.
  • Straight answers. Including "not yet" when that's the honest one, with a list of what to fix.
  • No rate games. We don't publish "from" rates. You'll see real figures for your situation before you commit.

Please be accurate on the form

It's the one thing we ask of you. The amount, the purpose, your property position, your trading history and anything owing to IRD shape which options fit. Rounding up, leaving out the tax debt or guessing the mortgage balance doesn't help — it just sends us down the wrong path. Accurate answers mean the first thing we suggest is something that can actually go through.

Before you start

You don't need anything to ask. But if you'd like to arrive prepared, try the funding readiness check for a first read and a document list, or check what documents lenders ask for. If tax is involved, the tax due dates tool helps you see what's coming.

Common questions

Does asking affect my credit score?

No. There's no credit check when you first enquire. We'll talk about a credit check only once you've decided to go ahead, and we'll tell you before it happens.

Will my details be sent to lots of lenders?

No. A real person reviews your situation and matches it properly. We don't spray your details around in the hope that someone says yes.

How long does it take?

It depends on the type of loan and how quickly documents come together. Unsecured options usually need less paperwork; property-secured loans involve a valuation and legal work. Tell us your deadline and we'll be straight about whether it's realistic.

What should I have ready?

Photo ID, six months of business bank statements, your IRD statement of account from myIR and, if property is involved, title, rates, insurance and mortgage details. Our documents page has the full list.

What if the answer is no?

Then we'll tell you why and what would change it — filing a return, setting up an instalment arrangement, building a few more months of statements, or bringing in property security.
